Eagle Story of one that Grows up thinking he's a Chicken

2 chickens

This popular eagle story (author unknown) describes an eaglet that grows up with chickens and continues to be unconscious of his true identity. It points to the unconscious and 'sleeping' years of humankind:

A man found an eagle's egg and put it in the nest of a backyard hen. The eaglet hatched with the brood of chicks and grew up with them.

All his life the eagle did what the barnyard chickens did, thinking that he was a barnyard chicken. He scratched the earth for worms and insects. He clucked and cackled. And he would thrash his wings and fly a few feet into the air.

Years passed and the eagle grew very old. One day he saw a magnificent bird far above him in the cloudless sky. It glided in graceful majesty among the powerful wind currents, with scarcely a beat of its strong golden wings.

The old eagle looked up in awe. "Who's that?" he asked.

eagle flying in sky "That's the eagle, the king of birds," said his neighbor. "He belongs to the sky. We belong to the earth -- we're chickens."

So the eagle lived and died a chicken, for that's what he thought he was.

This eagle story has even greater significance to me now than it did before. We are so much more than we think we are. "I Am that I Am" are words given to us by Jesus Christ. "I Am" means God in action, and speaks to the true Divine Potential that lies within us.

Well many of us get this concept, but do we understand the inner power that can be released into our experience as creators and designers of our lives? -- based on our dreams and desires, not our past that usually presents us with all the limitations and reasons why we can't do something. This is where our consciousness becomes so vital to mastering our thoughts and feelings...

The eagle in seen in astrology, where the sign of Scorpio is expressed as the scorpion in its lowest form and the eagle in its highest, transformed state. The eagle lives high up in the atmosphere and ethers of spirit. It can oversee the earth with such clarity of vision.

Possibly the phoenix takes the sign of Scorpio to its ultimate transformation and height of expression as the phoenix is seen rising up out of the ashes. Through these symbols we see the range of possible states of living which depends on our consciousness and striving to be more.
