How Do We Define Success in Life?

What is Success in Life? By what standards do we define success in life? So often we are raised by our parents and/or society to believe that we need to make a certain income or attain a professional status. I know that I never even questioned my choice to go on to university. Hopefully we aren't living our parents or someone else's dream but rather our own. Yet figuring out our own dream can be difficult when we aren't used to consulting our inner world, or when we live by society's standards and not our own.

The mountain is a symbol of striving for a goal. It represents the path to higher achievements and even enlightenment.

How do young people define success in life?

I think that the new generation of income earners define success in life differently. They are re-evaluating their careers, lifestyles and incomes. Careers no longer have the security and stability with pensions that they once had. People want to have more control and input into their livelihood, hence increasing self-employment and variable job changes. Many are starting to think that 'JOB' stands for Just-Over-Broke, and they want a lot more satisfaction if they aren't able to earn the top dollars. Ideally they would have both. People have to define success with more internal cues rather than just outer ones. Many of the young people have a strong sense of authenticity that tested their teachers in school and now will test the career market place. How will they define success in life? I have no doubt that it will embrace the foundation stone of happiness.

How do Baby Boomers define success in life?

With increasing consumer debt in the populace it is plain and evident to see that a large portion of society overspend to attain a particular lifestyle. And those that do attain their aspiring positions of professional status and high income aren't necessarily happy, although in terms of defining success in life from a worldly standpoint, they have achieved it. Increasing incidences of heart attacks and fibromyalgia, etc. are indicators that people are pushing beyond their personal health and well-being. People have lost touch with themselves in terms of their joy and passion for living. I certainly see this among many of the Baby Boomers of my generation. Outer dictates become so strong and compelling that they are living entirely from the outside in, unlike the Freedom Thinkers who live from the inside out. They may be pressed to look for a new definition of success, and if we don't see it ourselves than sometimes our bodies will nudge us.

How do we define success in life?

Our bodies are great communicators to us. They tell us so much about our re-qualified (limited) thoughts. Read Louise Hay's book, Heal Your Life, for a greater understanding and much more detailed understanding of what different illnesses communicate to us, and what different body parts are trying to tell us. Then you will define your success in life in a new light. Of course, if you don't have your health it's a lot more difficult to appreciate wealth and a freedom lifestyle... New levels of personal development are sometimes demanded of us through our body's messages.

This summer I read the book, The Monk Who Sold His Red Ferrari, by Robin Sharma, who wrote this spiritual fable about fulfilling your dreams and reaching your destiny. It describes a prominent and highly successful lawyer who seemingly had everything, but is brought to a dramatic halt with a life changing heart attack. This wake-up call caused him to shift suddenly to the inward life of a Monk where he rediscovered his essence, greater passion and purpose. He began to define success in life according to new personal truths.

How can people find the rewards of expressing their authentic selves through their work? How can they attain fulfillment and success in their lives? Only that person can know. Perhaps a doctor is very unhappy and wants to be a musician in his heart. The more we can stand and observe without judgment the freer people are to make major changes that reflect greater satisfaction in their lives. Changes that tap into their souls and God given gifts.

How do students define success in life?

During my brief interactions with Waldorf Schools I really appreciated their balanced schooling where the role of follower was acknowledged equally with that of being the leader. In high school, students seemed less streamed towards educational funnels. Many of the students developed a more mature attitude. I have seen this also among many of the home school students that I have worked with. Perhaps they are a little less affected by the mass consciousness in society. After all, their parents stepped outside of the framework on their behalf.

How do wealth leaders define success in life?

This year I have been exploring internet marketing, a field of entrepreneurs who dream of something more in life -- more money, more job freedom, more time for pursuing personal interests. My investigations have brought me to several programs that teach Success Principles. What amazes me is to see how the few people who rise to positions of wealth and motivational speaking are especially positive people. They incorporate many positive affirmations into their life. They live the spiritual principles of confidence, desire and commitment to their purpose. They have developed a positive mindset filled with intense feeling that magnetizes worldly abundance to them. They clearly define their concept of success and then go about achieving it with a focus and drive that is remarkable. Their burning desire to succeed drives the engine of WILL that exists in their feeling bodies and feminine side of life. This is what magnetizes to them all the resources that are needed for their success. They don't even have to orchestrate the details. Maybe these wealth leaders don't have the higher knowledge yet, but they have managed to attain the application of many of the spiritual principles for manifesting a flow of abundance into their lives. We can learn a great deal from them. Above all we can feel their burning desire which fuels their will towards remarkable abundance and their unparalleled ability to focus their attention on their goals.

How do you define success in life?

Many people have limited thoughts and blocks in their psychological stance concerning finances and abundance. I certainly had to work through a lot in this area and I'm just breaking through the last bits of derailing, limited consciousness into a more abundant consciousness. These are important requirements in the attraction process that leads to wealth and financial success.

My journey started with limited attitudes that I picked up in early childhood. When I saw Harv Ecker's claim that we all have a blueprint for financial success, I wanted to know more and took his introductory class and weekend workshop called The Millionaire Mind. Perhaps you'd prefer to listen to a Millionaire Mind Tele-class His experiential style really helped me to face and push through many of the limiting concepts that were rooted in my childhood, plus society and still affecting me. Significant shifts were made for me (and my husband) during this workshop...... It affected our approach and planning in the area of finances. It gave us new hope to define success in life - financially, by clearing out some limiting concepts and providing us with practical solutions. Book: Secrets of the Millionaire Mind

How do I define success in life?

Finally, I'd like to say that in the bigger scheme of things know that it is our God-given right to attain financial abundance. Keep in mind that financial rewards are only one aspect of abundance and it doesn't have to come to you on the single channel of career or work. Nothing is ever lost if you bring a consciousness to this fact. Those supposedly 'lost' investments will come back to you if you allow them to. Don't think of them as lost. Money is energy and what you give out always comes back to you, magnified. This is a universal law.

Did you know that there is an unlimited supply in the world? Our resources of abundance are much greater than we think. Remember that financial abundance is the last of the four responsibilities we accepted in coming to earth each lifetime since the beginning of humanity but kept forgetting! With our renewed awareness of our promise maybe it can happen this time. In coming to earth we were contracted to achieve:

1) Eternal Happiness -- rich relationships, joy and passion

2) Boundless Health and Youth -- retraining our cells to accept perfect health and reversing the aging process.

3) Unstoppable Creative Self-Expression -- an ability to express our soul.

4) Opulent Abundance -- richness in all areas and a great appreciation for the earth as a source of all abundance.

Perhaps these four attainments define success in life. Abundance is built on the achievement of the first three responsibilities. Infinite abundance must be accompanied by personal peace and harmony. The foundation is Happiness. No longer is a spiritual life one of minimalization and lack and secrecy. Those days are vanishing and quickly being replaced with a new way to define success by many of the spiritual communities, who recognize a new era of resurrection (which is rising up out of the crucifixion period of sin and suffering). We are meant to be interfacing with the world to effect the changes that are desperately needed.

Reflections also define success in Life

When we define success in our life, look at all four areas of responsibility -- happiness, health, creative self-expression as well as wealth. They are reflections of our Success. Our outer life will mirror back to us our alignment to our own divinity and success in achieving greater perfection. We are intended to go forth into the world as part of a new civilization that offers new technologies, and renewed resources and so much more.

How do spiritual students define success?

Spiritual students put their spiritual evolution first. They are working towards various initiations that will graduate them to experience mastery as an earth being, becoming one with the light of God, and possibly their own ascension in this lifetime. Increasing consciousness is accompanied by integrating increased light and love with new unfolding gifts as we lift ourselves into greater light and love. Service to humanity is a natural part of this process which relates to the Law of Oneness - the one law of Life, and live by the one law of Love. Success is only possible when we have positively impacted the lives of other people.

For many students like myself we put our spirituality ahead of wealth seeking. But really they go hand-in-hand. It's time for the spiritual students to access their greater wealth and abundance, while the wealth leaders look for the spiritual knowledge that would offer them a deeper fulfillment as they open avenues to their soul. We all have gifts for one another. The world needs awakened leaders who will make a positive difference.

Ultimate success in life is about achieving FREEDOM. Freedom from death, aging, poverty and unhappiness, and to share these freedoms with others. Democracy and religion were intended to do this but have largely lost their way... In fact freedom points to an earth mastery and success that most people cannot even imagine. What does freedom mean to you? Most people think of freedom as being free of debts, and having more time to spend with family and hobbies. How do you define success in life? How can we define it collectively?
